I’m not kidding.
I’m in the market for furniture. While I’ve located a number of items, I’m having a hard time finding pieces that 1- are actually built to last and 2- I want.
Like…my grandparents’ furniture lasted from the mid 1970’s until the early 2000’s for the most part…and probably would have lasted longer if they would have.
I have my family’s 100+ year old dining room table. C’mon folks.
The biggest problem that I’m finding is that I can’t find things I like.
I want a loveseat-sized settee. Seriously.
I know there are other pieces that I’d love to have. And maybe I will eventually.
But a settee that is built to last is an absolute I-will-turn-this-world-upside-down-for item.
And I am. I really am. Just…from behind a computer screen because furniture store folks don’t like me much (okay, at all).
I’m not just buying something to fill a space. I’m buying something that needs to fit my personality. I’m buying something that I want to enjoy looking at. I’m investing a good chunk of change into something that, while comfortable, is not live-in-able. I don’t want to find myself glued to my furniture because I can’t get off of it (and trust me when I say that that is a real possibility some evenings after I take meds).
I just can’t understand a lot of the styles of furniture out there today.
And I can’t understand being told that this is “good” furniture that will last 8-10 years.
EIGHT TO TEN?!?! That’s it?!?!
See…this is where I have the problems when I finally DO find something that I like…
I plan to sit on it for longer than that.
And if I’m having a hard time finding one now, what do I really think my chances are going to be in 8 to 10 years of finding something I like to replace it?!?!?
Cripes people. Seriously.
Okay. Furniture search break is over. Time to get back to it.
Wish me luck…
