I get to pick my nieces up after summer school this year. It’s a nice thing. All 3 girls plus me toolin’ down the road in my coupe with the windows down and the radio on.
They’re not too happy with my choice in radio stations…
…but it’s my car, so…
We listen to a lot of Jack FM. I’m okay with this. I know most of the songs on that station.
They don’t necessarily.
But they should. At least in my opinion. Which, since I’m having to play responsible AND adult at the time they’re with me? It’s the only one that counts.
Today I was singing along with Bon Jovi’s “I’ll Be There For You”.
Reason number 578, 382,091,231 B I know theses kids are MY bloodline?
They talk to the music.
So here I am, singing along (loudly) …
“OH BABY YOU KNOW MY HANDS ARE DIIIIIIIIIRTY….”
“BUT I WANTED TO BE YOUR VALENTIIIIII…IIIII….IIIINE…”
-Um…NOT UNTIL YOU WASH YOUR HANDS…
…I was laughing too hard at that point to get the next two lines out…
…so I picked up at the chorus…
“I’LL BE THERE FOR YOU, THESE FIVE WORDS I’LL SAY TO YOU, WHEN YOU BREATHE? I WANT TO BE THE AIR FOR YOU. I’LL. BE. THERE. FOR. YOU. I’D LIVE AND I’D DIE FOR Y…”
-OF COURSE YOU’RE GOING TO DIE! You need to wash your hands or you’re going to get sick and die! Do you know where whatever you touched was last?!?!? No, you do NOT. WASH. YOUR. HANDS!!!!
…Did I…did I just hear MY mother (the minions’ Gramma) come feet first out of my eldest niece’s mouth???
…I think I did…
I’ll be honest. I spend a lot of time telling Momma “I’m sorry.” after spending the day with the girls. Don’t get me wrong, they’re 97% well behaved (they are, after all 15-going-on-25, 11-going-on-too-big-for-her-britches, and 8-going-on-teenager, so…).
I just don’t exactly know how my Momma did it. I do not.
“I’m sorry, Momma…”
-For what? Wait. You had the girls again today. What…
“Breathing. Blinking. Sleeping. Eating. Talking. …basically exisiting…”
-What happened today?
“Oh nothing. I’m pretty sure I just witnessed me and my sisters in person, tho…”
-*insert my Momma laughing wickedly here*
Yeah. About that.
Good luck, world. At one point or another? These girls are going to be young women, hell-bent on world domination.
…not 100% sure they don’t get that from me…
…and their mama…
…and their Gramm…
But until I turn them lose?
They’re going to continue to learn good music. Tomorrow? Roxette. Because I can.
It’s good to be the Auntie 😉
Catch y’all on the flip.
